Who should we empathize with ?
Houses nowadays are getting smaller and smaller compared to 10 years ago. The 2 parties involve in this are the government and the residents. In this situation, I empathize with the people living in these houses because not only are the houses getting smaller, the prices are also increasing rapidly. The cause of this may be because of the rise in population in singapore with more foreign talents are coming in. In the past 5 years, the population was growing rapidly that infrastructure could not keep up so because of the temporary imbalance, prices shot up. However, I think that the government should have thought about how they are going to manage this situation before planning to bring in so many foreign talents into the country instead of just minimizing the spaces in our houses as their solution. The size of an average house have shrunk by about 10 percent but the prices have jumped more than 10 folds.
The stakeholders in this case are earning more and more. Property developers buy the land at a much lower price compared to the people paying for the house. I feel that property developers are reaping off those desperate for a simple roof above their heads.
In conclusion, I empathize more with the people living in these houses more than the government.
